Purchase of this 17-acre parcel, which overlooks the confluence of the Deep and Rocky Rivers, protects the state and federally endangered Cape Fear Shiner and three rare mussel species that occur in the Rocky River.

White Pines

White pines and other montane plant species grow on the tract. White Pines Nature Preserve, owned by the Triangle Land Conservancy, forms the eastern boundary of the property. The Newton Tract has been added to the White Pines Nature Preserve.

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
