One mile of Richland Creek and two miles of Sandy Creek, a nationally significant aquatic habitat for the federally endangered Tar River spiny mussel, were protected through a permanent easement.
Several other rare mussels and fishes also live in this section of stream.
EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
