Little Shocco Creek is designated a nationally significant aquatic habitat, and harbors the Federally Endangered dwarf wedgemussel. Low elevation seeps on the tract are also protected by this easement.

The purchase of a conservation easement on this tract contributes to the protection of this habitat. The parcel connects state-owned lands with permanently protected lands. Four other parcels in this stream segment are to be protected by EEP purchases.

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
