The purchase of a conservation easement on this section of Fishing Creek, a nationally significant aquatic habitat, protects rare mussels and fish, including the Federal Species of Concern yellow lance, Atlantic pigtoe and Roanoke bass.

The Fishing Creek aquatic habitat has been identified as nationally significant. The parcel was identified for protection in the Fishing Creek riparian corridor conservation plan

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
