N.C. Ecosystem Enhancement Program

UPPER TAR RIVER HARRIS, GRANVILLE COUNTY

Acres: 38.8

Acquisition date: 12/19/06

One of the few remaining large parcels in the area with a mature oak-hickory forest, the federally endangered dwarf wedgemussel and Eastern creekshell mussel have been found within 1/3 mile of this tract.

This parcel also contributes to the protection of a corridor along the Upper Tar River and the Tar River headwaters, maintaining aquatic habitats for the rare mussels, crayfish and the Neuse River waterdog. Other uncommon mussels that occur here include the creeper, notched rainbow and eastern creekshell.
