Although small, this tract is near other lands protected with funding from EEP. A mature Piedmont levee forest on this parcel contains a wide variety of tree species, including sycamore, cherrybark oak, hackberry and winged elm, and large populations of spring ephemeral wildflowers, such as yellow fumewort and baby-blue eyes. |

The rich spring flora includes the state designated significantly rare isopyrum, another spring wildflower. The tract fronts on about one-third of a mile of the Upper Tar River, which is a nationally significant body of water that contains several rare species, including the federally endangered dwarf wedgemussel and the federally endangered plant Harperella. The portion of the Upper Tar River on this tract contains several rare species of mussel, including the Atlantic pigtoe, yellow lance, yellow lampmussel, green floater, triangle floater, creeper and notched rainbow. The Roanoke bass, a fish designated as a federal species of concern, also lives in this stream. EEP helped to fund several conservation easements along this stream, which was targeted by the program due to the importance of aquatic habits in the river and associated tributaries.
