N.C. Ecosystem Enhancement Program
SOUTH YADKIN CROWTHER NORTH, ROWAN COUNTY

Acres: 39

Acquisition date: 10/14/05

Purchase of easements on the Crowther North tract was part of the Two Rivers Corridor conservation initiative. High-quality riparian buffers on this property protect water quality near the confluence of the Yadkin and South Yadkin rivers.

The tract is just north of Pickler's Bluff, another easement funded by EEP. Nearly 12 miles of stream at other sites along this conservation corridor have been protected through Clean Water Management Trust Fund, NCDOT mitigation efforts, federal farmland protection and private contributions. Floodplain pools provide amphibian breeding habitats, and are bordered with Piedmont/ Mountain Swamp Forest species such as cherrybark oak and green ash.

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
