Swamp black gum and wetland sedges dominate the alluvial forest along the steam bed and wetland. The submerged aquatic plant bur-reed is common in the creek bed.

The stream, which is designated as high-quality water by the Division of Water Quality, runs through the Camp Chestnut Ridge Significant Natural Heritage Area.
The purchase of this easement encouraged the protection of chestnut oaks and shagbark hickory on the uplands of this site, which will be managed as a non-profit nature camp for environmental education purposes for school, church and private groups.
EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
