The conservation easement on this tract protects Shelton Creek which is designated as a nationally significant aquatic habitat. The federally endangered Dwarf wedgemussel, Eastern creekshell and Squawfoot also occur in this reach of Shelton Creek. The second tract contains one of the more mature stands of timber in the upper Tar River system.

 

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
