The federally endangered Dwarf wedgemussel occurs in Shelton Creek both upstream and downstream of this easement area. Shelton Creek is designated as a state significant aquatic habitat. Mature beech woods as well as bottomland hardwoods are included in this easement. The federal species of concern Atlantic pigtoe, Pinewoods shiner, state threatened Triangle floater, state rate Creeper, and state special concern Notched rainbow and Eastern Creekshell all live in the creek that flows through this property.

 

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
