N.C. Ecosystem Enhancement Program

NORTH PACOLET RIVER CHILDERS, POLK COUNTY

Acres: 40

Acquisition date: 10/25/05

This important easement lies between two other permanently protected areas along the North Pacolet River. Several large rock outcroppings and a 50-foot tall waterfall on Big Fall Creek were also protected here. Carolina silverbells and sweet shrub bloom in spring in the rich slope forests, along with abundant foam flower, ferns and trilliums.

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
