The wide floodplain on this property contains floodplain pools favorable for amphibian breeding and has natural levees along the edge of the floodplain. Federally endangered Dwarf wedgemussels, federal species of concern Atlantic pigtoe, Yellow lance, and state threatened Triangle floater, Creeper, and Least brook lamprey live in this portion of Fishing Creek.

 

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
