N.C. Ecosystem Enhancement Program
FISHING CREEK GREEN, WARREN COUNTY

Acres: 15.5

Acquisition date: 9/13/05

This conservation area contains mature hardwood forests, low elevation seeps, piedmont bottomland forests, and floodplain pools. These forests provide substantial buffering to significant aquatic habitats along Fishing Creek, a nationally significant creek in the Upper Tar River basin. The stream harbors the federally endangered Tar River spinymussel, federal species of concern Atlantic pigtoe, Yellow lance, and state threatened Triangle floater, Creeper, and Least brook lamprey.

EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
