The river, designated as significant aquatic habitat, harbors threatened mussels and fish, and is part of the Upper Eno River Macrosite. It supports the threatened Triangle floater, Atlantic pigtoe, yellow lampmussel, Squawfoot, and endangered Green floater. The rare Roanoke bass, Pinewoods shiner, and Septima's clubtail dragonfly are also present.
EEP’s preservation efforts result from a partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NCDOT is a major contributor of funding on this project.
