This tract lies adjacent to a cluster of several state and regionally significant natural heritage areas. Downstream, Barnes Creek is known to support five species of rare freshwater mollusks: brook floater, squawfoot, notched rainbow, Carolina creekshell, and Eastern creekshell. |

Mountain laurel and galax grow along the creek on this tract, while the uplands are being restored and managed in part as habitat for the Schweinitz’s sunflower, a rare piedmont plant species. Protection of this tract also contributes to a corridor of protected land.
