Many agencies, programs and firms implement and fund the restoration of streams, wetlands and buffers across the state. However, the Ecosystem Enhancement Program stands alone in its use of a systematic approach to set restoration priorities based on restoration need and restoration opportunity.
The magnitude and location of restoration activities implemented by EEP are based on strategic planning that considers the size, location and result of known or anticipated environmental impacts from transportation-infrastructure improvements and other economic development in the state.
Detailed watershed planning allows EEP to focus its resources on projects that have the greatest likelihood for improving water quality, floodwater retention, wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities. In addition, by consolidating compensatory-mitigation resources, EEP is able to implement large-scale projects that might otherwise go unfunded because of limited resources.
