Durham Herald-Sun: Assessments begin today
Assessments begin today
DURHAM -- The Upper Neuse River Basin Association is helping the N.C. Ecosystem Enhancement Program beginning today and continuing through Oct. 31 to assess streams in Durham County to determine actions that could be taken to reduce water pollution.
The project focuses on Ellerbe Creek and its "watershed" or drainage area. Ellerbe Creek's watershed drains much of Durham and flows directly into Falls Lake.
Residents are advised that assessment teams may be walking in and around streams and ponds in those areas collecting data on stream and watershed conditions. Orange vest-clad workers will carry copies of a letter already sent to owners of the affected lands and a photo ID.
For more information, visit www.unrba.org/ellerbe or call Heather Saunders at (919) 558-9319. Landowners interested in participating in stream restoration projects on their property are especially invited to get in touch.
