In North Carolina, protecting wetlands and waterways is recognized as a responsibility to future generations.
Sometimes, however, threatened or degraded streams and wetlands need “fixing” to restore or enhance the natural functions that they perform: preserving water quality, controlling floodwaters and pollution runoff, checking erosion and protecting fish and wildlife habitats.
EEP also makes the options available to landowners of simple sale or donation of property, collaborating with both public and private partners to preserve the highest-quality natural areas across the state for future generations. Many tracts become state parks or game lands.
EEP stands ready to work with willing private landowners to restore, enhance and protect our state’s natural resources. Voluntary agreements between landowners and EEP – known as conservation easements – are fundamental to protecting water quality.
