In carrying out the Ecosystem Enhancement Program’s stated mission “to restore, enhance, preserve and protect the functions associated with wetlands, streams and riparian areas,” the initiative’s Watershed Planning and Project Implementation sections both work cooperatively to produce ecologically effective mitigation in advance of permitted impacts from transportation-infrastructure improvements and other economic development.
EEP watershed planners establish restoration priorities in each of the state’s 17 river basins to target local watersheds for EEP projects. EEP project implementation managers work with interested public and private landowners and private-sector contractors to oversee design and construction of restoration and enhancement projects across the state.
